The BRICS Experts Forum convened to discuss “The Role of BRICS in the Search for a New World Order” on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Organised by the Rossiya Segodnya media group in collaboration with the Xinhua News Agency, the forum brought together experts from a wide range of countries and institutions.

Participants included prominent figures such as Alexander Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma; philosopher Alexander Dugin; José Pio Borges, President of the Board of Trustees of the Brazilian Center for International Relations; and Ivan Timofeev, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council. The forum also featured experts from leading analytical and educational centres in Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.

In his opening remarks, Dmitry Kiselev, Director General of Rossiya Segodnya, highlighted the emergence of a new world order and emphasised BRICS’ fundamental role in shaping it. He stated, “A new structure and a new methodological institution for humanity are currently being formed in the world and BRICS is a fundamental element in this new world order.”

Lu Yansong, Editor-in-Chief of the Xinhua News Agency, stressed the importance of BRICS countries resisting economic coercion and maintaining cooperative relations in his address to the forum.

Throughout the forum, seminars focused on various key topics, including the goals and tasks of BRICS, intensifying cooperation in trade and global innovation, payments in national currencies, strengthening educational partnerships, and formulating a common cultural space for BRICS.

Forum participants also attended the plenary session of SPIEF with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bolivian President Luis Arce, and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The agreement to hold the BRICS Experts Forum was signed by the heads of Rossiya Segodnya and Xinhua News Agency in May during President Putin’s state visit to China.
