The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, has released its 2023 activity report, detailing significant strides in promoting sustainable development and good governance practices across various sectors. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chair of NIGSD’s Board of Trustees, emphasized the institute’s dedication to enhancing Egypt’s position in these fields, in line with the country’s Vision 2030.
NIGSD’s work has garnered international acclaim, receiving the EFMD Excellence in Practice Award for impactful learning and development interventions. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs recognized the “Be an Ambassador” initiative as an accelerator for Sustainable Development Goals. The institute also received a Guinness World Records participation medal for contributing to the longest journey during COP27.
NIGSD has been proactive in empowering youth through initiatives like the Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, training over 300 young individuals and holding workshops on marketing and e-commerce. In collaboration with UNICEF, the “Wa’tna” platform was launched to educate youth on sustainable development and climate change.
The institute partnered with the Ministry of Education to expand the “Green Minds” initiative, promoting environmental awareness among elementary and high school students. Furthermore, NIGSD completed the “Together for a Digital Future” initiative, training over 1,500 individuals in collaboration with Cisco.
NIGSD’s commitment to gender equality is evident in initiatives such as the “Empowering Egyptian Women Leaders” program, which trained over 300 women across Egypt. The institute also launched the “Salah, Omnia, and the Sustainable Development Goals” initiative at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. In terms of research and publications, NIGSD produced studies evaluating the impact of government projects and issued reports on Egypt’s performance in global governance and innovation indices.

Over the past four years, NIGSD has trained over 52,000 individuals through various programs, workshops, and international collaborations, demonstrating its dedication to promoting sustainable development and good governance practices in Egypt and beyond.
