Manal Awad takes oath as Egypt’s Minister of Local Development

Manal Awad Mikhael took the constitutional oath as Egypt’s Minister of Local Development before President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in the government headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

Awad has Served as Governor of Damietta from September 1, 2018, until July 2024.

Earlier she held the position of Deputy Governor of Giza for Community Affairs and Environmental Development from February 7, 2015, to August 30, 2018.

She handled several portfolios, including NGOs, slum development, the development of the most impoverished villages, women’s affairs, literacy, child and maternal care, coordination and follow-up with deputy governors. She also coordinated and followed up with the directorates of irrigation, agriculture, and veterinary medicine regarding environmental development.

Awad holds a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medical Sciences from Benha University and a Master’s degree in Veterinary Medical Sciences from Alexandria University.

She also has a PhD in Veterinary Medical Sciences from Alexandria University.
