The Israeli occupation army continued bombing various areas in the Gaza Strip as the conflict entered its 296th day, following a day of intense violence that specifically targeted displacement centres.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza, on Sunday, announced that Israeli forces committed three massacres against civilians in the sector within the past 24 hours, resulting in 66 deaths and 241 injuries. This raises the toll of the Israeli aggression on the sector since the start of the conflict to 39,324 killed and 90,830 injured.
Simultaneously, waves of displacement continue across the besieged sector, which has been subjected to a relentless campaign of heavy aerial and ground bombardment since October 7, 2023. The current wave of displacement is concentrated in the city of Khan Younis, amidst a renewed campaign of bombing within a new ground operation, while Palestinian resistance continues to confront the heavily armed occupation army with locally manufactured equipment.
In terms of negotiations, a meeting was held on Sunday in Rome, involving American, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators, with the participation of Israeli Mossad Chief David Barnea, CIA Director William Burns, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel.
The American website Axios reported that Israel handed the United States its updated proposal to conclude a prisoner exchange deal and a ceasefire, but Israeli officials expressed pessimism about reaching a positive outcome. An Israeli official told the website that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “wants an impossible deal.”
On the ground, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), announced in a statement that they targeted an Israeli infantry force with an anti-personnel “Raad” explosive device near the Al-Baraa bin Azib Mosque in the Tel al-Hawa neighbourhood in southern Gaza City, causing casualties among them. In another statement, they said they targeted occupation command rooms in the “Netsarim” axis with short-range “Rajum” rockets of 114 mm calibre.
The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades announced that they targeted an Israeli force with an anti-personnel explosive device, causing casualties in the Al-Salam neighbourhood in eastern Rafah.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, stated that they shelled the occupation army’s vehicles and soldiers stationed around the Reem Hall south of Deir al-Balah with 60 mm mortar shells. They added that they shelled occupation soldiers and vehicles at the Abu Urayban site on the Netsarim axis with mortar shells and 107 rockets.
