Authorities detain teenager planning 'suicide operation'

Cairo: Local authorities on Saturday arrested a teenager who was planning to cross into the Palestinian territories to carry out a suicide operation , a security source told reporters. Abdel Rahman Magdi, 17, from the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, left his family a letter informing them he was heading to the Palestinian territories through the Rafah border to carry out a suicide operation after joining the Palestinian resistance , the source said. Magdi took a taxi from Alexandria to Cairo, and from there was planning to head to the divided town of Rafah which borders the Gaza Strip. On the way, he also told the taxi-driver of his plans. The driver informed the authorities who sent out a police alert with Magdi s descriptions.

The youth was detained in Sheikh Zuweid in northern Sinai and was being questioned, the source said.
