CAIRO: Zamalek board member Ahmed Hafez has dismissed on Saturday reports indicating that the club intend to appoint Frenchman Roger Lemerre as their new coach.

Tunisian paper Al-Akhbar has recently said that Zamalek have opened talks with the experienced tactician.

It also stated that Lemerre will engage in formal negotiations with Zamalek once ha arrives in Cairo later this month to take part in the 2008 African Cup of Nations review.

But Hafez believes that the report is not only inaccurate, but also unrealistic.

We can t afford paying Lemerre 60,000 euros per month, Hafez told FilGoal.com.

Lemerre, who guided France to the Euro 2000 triumph, was sacked as Tunisia coach following the team s exit in the last eight of the Nations Cup in Ghana.

Despite Zamalek board’s repeated statements that they trust coach Ruud Krol, it is highly unlikely that the Dutchman will remain at the helm next season.

Zamalek have lost hopes of competing for the league title for the fourth consecutive season but managed to reach the Egyptian Cup final, where they will face ENPPI.
