CAIRO: The Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) announced that it will hold a meeting today to discuss the possibility of adding Andalus Park to its roster of antiquities.
The council will mull adding Andalus Park to the Islamic and Coptic monuments in Egypt. It will also discuss adding the Giza Zoo to that same category.
Andalus Park was built by Mohamed Zulfakar Pasha in 1935, during the reign of King Fouad, and classifying it to a monument would preserve its “unique formation considering its location, gardens, fountains, statues and monumental items, said an SCA press release.
Giza Zoo was established in 1867 at the time of Khedive Ismail. The SCA wishes to preserve its “exceptional pathways and “unique architectural design.
The researches and discussions about Giza zoo have been taking place since last year by a committee convened by Zahi Hawas, head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. -Daily News Egypt.
