Militarised factories: workers stand trial in military court for protesting

The Military Court in Alexandria postponed on Tuesday the final verdict for 26 workers in the Alexandria Shipyard Company, a case known in the media as “Tarsana workers,” to 7 February, local media reported.

The final ruling session has been postponed nine times so far.

The workers are facing accusations of inciting protests and delaying production.

The 26 workers had arranged an open sit-in from 22 to 23 May, calling on the company’s leaders to meet their demands that they had previously passed to the management, but did not receive any attention.

The workers’ demands included unpaid wages over the past four years, the abolishment of the national minimum wage just six months after its activation. They also called for annual pre-Ramadan bonuses.
