Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head to Washington on Wednesday to participate in the meeting of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS (D-ISIS).
The meeting will be held by foreign ministers representing a range of nations on Thursday and will be hosted by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The meeting comes at the heels of the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi and will confer the role of the coalition in combating the terrorist organisation, according to a statement by the foreign ministry.
The statement added that the meeting will discuss the situation and future international movements, in light of recent developments in northeastern Syria.
Shoukry will also participate in the ministerial meeting held by the Small Group on Syria, which will be taking place in Washington to discuss the latest developments in Syria and ways to advance the political settlement of the crisis, work to end the conflict, and preserve the unity of Syria.
The Small Group of Syria includes Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, France, Britain, Germany, and the United States.
