Amazon Prime Air, the drone delivery system that promises to deliver packages in 30 minutes or less, is expanding to three new locations by the end of 2024. Customers in Italy, the UK, and another US city will be able to choose from thousands of items that weigh five pounds or less and receive them by drone within half an hour.
The expansion of Prime Air comes with the unveiling of the new MK30 drone design, which is faster, quieter, and lighter than previous models. The MK30 can fly twice as far as the old drones and can handle more diverse weather conditions, such as light rain and extreme temperatures. The MK30 also has a unique package delivery system that protects the contents inside the drone during transit.
The MK30 drones will operate safely and autonomously, using sense and avoidance technology to identify and avoid obstacles in the delivery area. They will also integrate into Amazon’s delivery network, meaning they will deploy from some Same-Day Delivery sites.
Amazon will announce the specific cities in the U.S. and abroad where Prime Air will be available in the coming months. More details on the service and how to opt in will be provided soon.
