CAIRO: The Egyptian government is set to receive a European Union (EU) grant worth 11 million euros (LE 85 million) on June 18 in support of the Egyptian government’s Research, Development and Innovation initiatives.
The funds will be utilized over four years by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and will facilitate Egypt’s participation in European Research by stimulating scientific linkages between the country’s scientists and institutions and those of the EU.
The grant will be signed over during a ceremony at the JW Marriot Mirage City, Kattameya.
The Egyptian side will be represented by H.E. Dr. Fayza Abu El Naga, Minister of International Co-operation, and H.E. Dr. Hany Helal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The European Union will be represented by the European Commissioner for Science and Research H.E. Janez Potocnik and H.E. Dr. Klaus Ebermann, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission in Egypt.
Ambassador Ebermann has just returned from Sharm El-Sheikh where he attended another grant ceremony, which saw 64 million euros signed over to the South Sinai Regional Development Program.
Like the funding of the South Sinai Regional Development Program, this latest grant is part of the Action Plan between Egypt and the EU under the European Neighborhood Policy.
