If you’re looking to decorate the exterior of your home, balcony or even looking for some home accessories, then your life just got a little bit easier. Clip’t Wings has a roaming exhibition made up of 16 artists offering furniture, pots, cushions, paintings and many more funky items to give your house some edge.
Clip’t Wings is a name established by two university students Dina Thabit and Sabrina Khalil. They first launched in March with a Mothers’ Day themed exhibition.
“The first one was a little rough as we planned it in a week, explains Khalil, “we contacted everyone we knew telling them to give our number to people they think have talent in the arts even if it’s just a hobby. We ended up with 18 artists.
After three days of planning, the girls turned the Zamalek apartment where the exhibition was to take place into an artsy space filled with paintings, jewelry, handbags, candles and more.
To advertise they created a group on Facebook – the very popular online social network – where they invited over 600 people. They also generated some media coverage through local publications and television channels.
This project is something both women have always been interested in. Khalil actually studied design management at Parsons School of Design in Paris before attending the American University in Cairo (AUC). Thabit, an art major at AUC and a painter herself, has always been creative and had many artistic ideas that she always wanted to fulfill. So with Khalil managing the business side and Thabit’s creative input, they’ve created a formula destined for success.
The current exhibit, which started on June 18 in a garden space on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, uses more established professionals for the outdoor themed display. The garden is filled with ottomans, brightly colored plant pots, mirrors, chests of drawers, and place mats arranged in a welcoming, comfortable setting.
Much of the furniture is brought in from the Far East by Ethica, Jawhara Nafa and others, some from India or Indonesia. Some of the items are locally made by Miram Milad. Ready to go plants are also on display provided by top landscaper Khaled Shokry.
“The theme is original, vintage style, one-of-a-kind pieces, explains Khalil.
Many of the locally made objects can be custom-made to order.
Paintings and photographs are also available by young artists Nermeen Wally, Karim Molyneux Berry and more.
Khalil adds, “I love the people we work with. They are so supportive of what we are doing, so it gives great motivation that people actually care.
As for the future, the two partners would love to have a permanent showroom, but not until they can give it their full attention, and have enough cash flow as they do not want to accept financial support from their parents or bank loans.
For now, they want to help market the young artists they have by putting out their names, helping sell their products to shops and taking special orders from them.
Cilp’t Wings welcomes artists of any level of experience.
Thabit explains, “We’ve had people as young as 14 and people over 40, as long as they can do something creative.
For now, the outdoor exhibition will be moving around Egypt throughout the summer season, from the Red Sea to the North Coast.
