Egyptian Traders chairman released, firm repays GASC

CAIRO: An Egyptian court released the chairman of wheat importer Egyptian Traders Co on Wednesday without requiring bail after the firm repaid $9.6 million to Egypt’s state wheat buyer GASC, the company said.

“An Egyptian court released him today without any requested guarantees, said Hisham Suleiman, trade general manager of Egyptian Traders, which has been at the center of a row of the quality of its Russian wheat imports.

“The $9.6 million was all repaid to GASC. As per the Egyptian prosecutors’ decision to re-export the Theosoros (ship), the cargo was shipped in three different vessels to Singapore and Bangladesh.
