CAIRO: Egypt announced 17 new cases of H1N1, raising Egypt’s total number of cases to 1,092, according to the health ministry’s official spokesperson Abdel Rahman Shahin.
An official statement issued by the health ministry indicated that the new cases include an 11-year-old boy from Al-Emam Aly primary school in Cairo and a 13-year-old girl from Alexandria National School, raising the total number of students infected to 29.
Neither case is related to any of the previously detected cases.
The remaining 15 cases include four Egyptians who are related to previously detected cases, eight British tourists recently arriving from London, two Italians and one Belgian.
The number of recovered cases reached 1,055 and only 34 cases remain in hospitals, according to Shahin.
In a related note, the Ministry of Education announced that the 18 classes that were suspended after the appearance of H1N1 cases among their students last week will resume this week.
Moreover, Fayoum Governor Galal Moustafa Said announced Monday that some of the students who were sent home for exhibiting flu-like symptoms will return to their schools after it was discovered that they suffered a regular fever.
Last week, 36 students in a school in Fayoum were sent home for exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
However, all 36 students tested negative for H1N1.
Moustafa told a local news channel that no H1N1 cases appeared in Fayoum so far.
