CAIRO: Swiss side Sion announced on Wednesday that Egypt goalkeeper Essam Al-Hadari has been granted permission by FIFA to play for them.

We received a decision from FIFA this evening confirming that Al-Hadari has been granted permission to play for FC Sion, the club said in a statement.

After a long legal drama, the Pharaoh is now ready to defend our goal.

Al-Hadari said on Wednesday that he has been cleared by FIFA to play for Swiss side Sion, according to Dream TV. The private satellite channel said that the veteran goalie informed them in a telephone interview that he is ready to feature in Sion s upcoming league game.

The Egyptian Football Association said they are yet to receive any notification from the world governing body over the matter.

Cairo giants Al Ahly, who own the keeper s contract, also insisted that they haven t been informed of any decision.

The 35-year-old keeper stirred controversy when he joined Sion in February without Ahly’s consent.

He returned to Ahly few weeks later to offer his apology for the club s board and fans and insisted that he was ready to accept any punishment.

However, he once again left to Sion, citing Ahly s unfair treatment towards him as a reason for his decision to depart.
