CAIRO: Ahly s right-back Islam Al-Shater is being targeted by several Gulf clubs, the Egyptian champions revealed on Thursday.

The club have received several offers for Al-Shater s services, most notably from gulf sides, Ahly said in a statement on their website.

Ahly are determined to fulfill Al-Shater s wish of playing abroad. The club fully appreciate the player s efforts throughout his spell here.

Al-Shater has been an exemplary figure in terms of discipline and conduct.

Earlier reports suggested the former Egypt defender was on his way out of Ahly, but Red Devils assistant coach Hossam Al-Badri was quick to refute those claims.

However, it seems that Al-Shater, who endured an injury-prone campaign last season, will bid farewell to Ahly. The 31-year-old joined Ahly from arch-rivals Zamalek in 2004 after activating a buy-out clause in his contract with the White Castle.

He established himself as a key member of Ahly’s squad but a succession of injuries and a sudden dip in form last season hampered his progress.

Ahly have released trio Ahmed Adel, Mohamed Mahmoud and Mohamed Hegazi.

Right-back Adel has failed to impress since his arrival from Olympic in January 2007, while youth team products Mahmoud and Hegazi couldn t prove their worth.

Ahly have recently sold striker Reda Al-Weeshi to Arab Contractors as they try to clear up spaces for new arrivals.
