DOHA: Karim Darwish, the sixth seed, crushed fellow Egyptian Amr Shabana 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 in the final of the Qatar Open late Friday for the biggest win of his career.

Nicol David of Malaysia meanwhile pocketed her third straight Doha title with an 11-7, 11-3, 11-9 win over Dutch rival Natalie Grinham.

It was David s 11th event title in a row and 33rd in all.

Titleholder Shabana had gone into the game as a clear favorite having landed two previous wins over Darwish this year.

But Darwish would not be denied as he made up for final losses in Cairo in August and at last month s World Open in Manchester.

I had done my homework, Darwish said.

I know him well – it was just that I was greedier for this title, Darwish told the Gulf Times in taking his title haul to 14. -AFP
