CAIRO: Iain Dowie has been appointed as the new coach of Amr Zaki s Hull City, the struggling Premier League club announced on Wednesday.
The English side have sacked coach Phil Brown after a string of poor results saw them slip to the relegation zone.
They are second from bottom in the 20-team table with 24 points, three adrift of the safety zone with nine matches remaining.
Hull City AFC is delighted to confirm Iain Dowie as the club s new manager, initially on a short-term contract, the club said in a statement on their official website.
Iain will be assisted at the KC Stadium by Tim Flowers and Steve Wigley.
Dowie previously managed Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic in the Premier League.
He was Alan Shearer s assistant at Newcastle United in 2009.
I m really looking forward to the challenge, the 45-year-old said after taking over at Hull.
It s a big challenge and I can t wait to get out onto the training ground with the players on Thursday.
I think this is a great opportunity for me in the Premier League, but it s also a great opportunity for the players to establish Hull City as a Premier League team.
Zaki will be looking to impress his new manager as he seeks to resurrect his career in the elite competition.
The Egypt striker joined Hull from Zamalek on loan until the end of the season but is yet to open his account with The Tigers.
