CAIRO: Zamalek boosted their Arab Champions League hopes after beating Kuwait’s Qadsia 4-2 at Cairo International Stadium in a thrilling encounter on Thursday.
Abu Kone stunned the home crowd in the 17th minute before Ghanaian midfielder Awuley ‘Junior’ Quaye leveled the score seven minutes before the interval.
Abdul-Halim Ali put Zamalek ahead five minutes after re-start but was cancelled out by Kone’s strike in the 80th minute.
Substitute Mostafa Gaafar came to the rescue two minutes from time and Osama Hassan ensured the precious win in stoppage time.
The result put Zamalek in charge of Group A with seven points, one ahead of second-placed Ahli Jeddah.
Algeria’s Ahli Bordj lie third with five points and Qadsia are fourth with four points.
