ALEXANDRIA: Ittihad s newly-signed defender Shadi Mohamed said he wasn’t keen to get the captain armband of his new team.

The former Ahly skipper has joined the Alexandrian side on a one-year deal, after he was released by the Red Devils last month.

Shadi, who wore Ahly s armband over the past four seasons, insists that “captaincy means nothing to him .

I m just another player at Ittihad, I don t seek to get the armband or to gain any extra privileges, the 32-year-old told FilGoal.com.

During Tuesday s press conference that was held to reveal the details of the transfer, Ittihad chairman Mohamed Moselhi expressed his desire to see Shadi wearing the armband at the coastal club.

However, current captain Ibrahim Al-Shayeb refused to take it off.

I couldn t care less about the armband, I said it s ok with me to wear it because the club s president asked me to, Shadi explained.

But if such a decision will cause troubles, I prefer not to.
