BERLIN: Germany’s highest court has ruled that a Russian-born German man has no grounds for appealing his murder conviction for fatally stabbing a pregnant Egyptian woman in a courtroom.
Germany’s Supreme Court says in a statement released Friday that it threw out Alexander Wiens’ appeal of his conviction as it was ungrounded.
Wiens is serving a life sentence without parole for the July 1 slaying of Marwa Al-Sherbini in a Dresden courtroom.
The attack on the 31-year-old pharmacist triggered outrage in the Muslim world. She was stabbed at least 16 times while in court to testify against him. She had filed a complaint against him in 2008, accusing him of insulting her with racial slurs, calling her a "terrorist" and "Islamist" for wearing a headscarf.
