CAIRO: Pro-democracy protesters plan mass demonstrations in several governorates around Egypt after Friday prayers.
People started gathering in Mahala to start protesting after Friday. The number of protesters is expected to reach 300,000, according to activist and blogger Mohamed Maree.
In Suez, Al-Ghad party senior member Ahmed Abdel-Gawad told Daily News Egypt that the masses are planning to hold protests all over the city following the Friday prayers.
Yet Abdel-Gawad said that they are concerned that the thugs would attack them like the case in the past two days.
One protester told Daily News Egypt that all mosques will witness the launch of protests.
“We are determined to continue our pursuit,” he said.
In Alex, the masses plan to pray in the streets and the main mosques in the city then gather each other to form a number of major posttests following the Friday prayer.
The target number of protesters according to Muslim Brotherhood senior member Sobhi Saleh will probably reach one million.
So far the protesters in Alexandria did not encounter any harassment. “Thugs are hiding now because they are a few hundreds and we are hundreds of thousands,” Saleh told Daily News Egypt.
The Muslim Brotherhood has repeatedly said its members are mere participants in the mass demonstrations that swept the country over the past 10 days. The protests have been dominated by youth without political affiliation.
In Arish, a few thousand are planning to hold protests also following the prayers.
Journalist Ahmed Abu Thiraa said there is no police or army presence in either Rafah or El-Sheikh Zowaid cities in North Sinai due to being close to the border with Israel.
