President Mohamed Morsy stated on Sunday that his constitutional declaration is “temporary,” and called upon all political groups for a national dialogue.
The statement followed a meeting held by Morsy with his advisers and assistants, in which they discussed solutions to the current crisis.
Essam El-Erian, presidential adviser, said the team proposed a number of suggestions to Morsy.
“The president will think about our recommendations and then see what to do,” El-Erian said. He declined giving more information on the content of the meeting or the proposals.
On Thursday, Morsy issued a new constitutional declaration which placed his decisions above the law. Since then Cairo and the rest of the country has witnessed widespread protests. Skirmishes between police forces and protesters have left hundreds injured.
