If you go out with a bunch of your friends on a weekend or after work, you will definitely go for fast food. If you need a snack while working, you will order a burger and fries. At the end of the week, you will stand on the scale and find you have gained an extra five kilos. Well, for those who want a place to enjoy the fast food luxury without the guilt, Diet House is here to fill the gap between healthy and fast food.
Dr Ahmed Omar Salem and a team of professional dieticians founded Diet House in 2011. The team’s main mission was to make light and healthy fast food available for everyone. “We want to inspire the community to eat in a healthier way,” said Fatma Dahroug, PR specialist at Diet House. “There is a huge problem of obesity in Egypt, which increases the prospects of getting high blood pressure and diabetes, among other diseases that have grave effects on people’s lives. Besides, children love junk food. We care about raising a strong and fit future generation, so we prepare meals that are just as delicious, but a lot healthier and with fewer calories.”
When asked about what ingredients Diet House uses in their menu, Dahroug said, “We do not use a single drop of oil. The dietician team carried out many brain-storming sessions to come up with a menu that includes diet pasta, pizza, fries, rice, and cordon bleu.”
They also bake their own bread, to make sure that all the ingredients are up to par.
Diet House also has a pleasant surprise for all those who have a sweet tooth; they offer diet cheesecakes and muffins. They use fat-free dairy products, fructose sugar and whole wheat in all of their desserts.
The place is very clean, and the staff is extremely welcoming. The menu is diverse; you can find everything you might possibly crave in any ordinary fast food place. Every item in the menu has its calorie, nutrient and carbohydrate count. The service is also incredibly quick.
While you sit down and enjoy your light meal, you watch a number of celebrities on the restaurant’s TV praising the place, and you find yourself nodding in agreement with what they say.
Diet House currently has four branches: Heliopolis, Gameat Al-Dewal Al-Arabeya Street, Lebanon Square, and 6th of October City.
