Security forces manning the Al-Kharouba checkpoint in Sheikh Zuweid have arrested an armed militant who attacked the checkpoint early Sunday morning using automatic weapons.

A security source within North Sinai stated that no casualties were reported as a result of the attack. After the attack was launched, Apache helicopters were able to chase down, locate and arrest the individual, transferring him to the appropriate investigative agencies under heavy protection.

Armed assailants attacked the checkpoint, located in the village of Al-Kharuba, 15 km east of Al-Arish, causing those manning it to respond with live fire.

Assailants also launched an attack on a military base in Al-Safa neighborhood of Rafah, located along the border with the Gaza Strip.

Eye witnesses from Rafah said that the assailants targeted the base in Al-Safa, exchanging fire with those inside until the former were forced to flee. No casualties were reported as a result of the attack.
