A police officer was killed Sunday and another was injured in Fayoum when “unknown assailants” shot at a police vehicle.
The matter however is still under investigation, the Ministry of Interior said.
Similar attacks have been taking place in governorates across Egypt.
The most recent of these attacks was in Sharqeya where a police officer was shot dead by masked gunmen. Another attack took place in Minya in October, in which a policeman was shot dead and another injured and the assailants were reported to be at large.
In September another attack left a policeman and a passer-by killed by “unknown assailants” in Minya.
Police and military personnel have been targeted by militants since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in August 2013.
