The Administrative Judiciary Court at the State Council will rule on the lawsuit filed to designate Hamas a “terrorist organisation”.
Samir Sabry, the lawyer who filed the lawsuit, told Daily News Egypt that it is expected that the lawsuit will be accepted by court. “It’s expected that the case will take at most three months for the final verdict,” he added.
The lawsuit was filed following the Cairo Court of Urgent Matters’ ruling its “lack of jurisdiction” Sunday over a lawsuit calling to designating the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, a “terrorist” organisation.
The lawsuit claimed the inclusion of Al-Qassam Brigades in “terrorist operations”, including the attack on 24 October attack that left at least 30 military personnel dead in North Sinai. The attack was later claimed by State of Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.
The government responded to the attack with a decision to create a buffer zone along the Egypt-Gaza border to destroy all smuggling tunnels leading in and out of Sinai, which the lawsuit claimed that the group is using to enter the country.
