The notorious lawyer and president of Zamalek SC, Mortada Mansour, reconciled with lawyer Tarek ElAwady on Sunday, after the latter filed legal complaints against Mansour for defamation and threatening behaviour.
Mohamed Othman, a Chairman of the Bar in North Cairo, announced in a statement signed by both lawyers that the two sides have full professional respect for one another.
In March, Mansour was given a one year prison sentence and an EGP 10,000 fine for insulting ElAwady on a television show.
The reconciliation is a surprise move by both individuals, who are regarded as headstrong lawyers. ElAwady has consistently represented the hardcore fan groups of Zamalek SC, known as the Ultras White Knights (UWK), against what they see as the aggression and lies of Mansour.
This May, Mansour was said to be intending to drop charges he is pursuing against 21 UWKs when an explosive detonated outside of the house of the judge involved in the case. The 21 are accused of attempting to assassinate Mansour, however they deny the charges. Their defence lawyer, ElAwady, claims that not only are the charges fabricated, but that Mansour has also been present during the physical abuse of the defendants.
