Hundreds of the late renowned actor Omar Sharif’s family, friends and fans gathered on Sunday at Al-Mosher Tantawy Mosque in the Fifth Settlement to bid the silver screen legend farewell. The funeral took place following midday prayers.

Omar’s son, Tarek, displayed strength and faith by standing strong and saluting the crowds as they arrived to pay their respects. Further, Sharif’s old friend, Gamel Rateb, was in attendance, as well as actor Khaled El-Nabawy, who recalled participating in a film with Sharif in 2009, and expressed the sad loss of his mentor.

The husband of late actress Faten Hamama was also present and attended the full funeral, even though the love story between the international actor and the Egyptian diva is what Egyptians frequently refer to.

Sharif’s passing occurred almost seven months after the passing of his former wife and the love of his life Faten Hamama, on 17 January at the age of 84. In all of his interviews, Sharif recalled how much Hamama meant to him. They had one son, but they divorced in the mid-1970s.

Sharif passed away Friday morning at the age of 83 following a heart attack, leaving behind millions of adoring fans, and friends mourning the loss of the actor.

His life may have come to an end, but Omar Sharif will always remain alive in the hearts of Egyptians.
