The new governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Tarek Amer denied media reports that he has an official Facebook page.
After officially assuming responsibility for his post Sunday, he said that all remarks about him having a Facebook page are untrue, and the page in question is not associated with him.
Amer said he deactivated his Facebook account on 17 October, four days before his appointment as the new governor of CBE. There are several Facebook pages claiming to be Amer’s official page that release statements, some of which are related to his management policy for the CBE.
He said any official statements or announcements will only be issued through the CBE.
One of these pages, called “The official page of the new CBE governor Tarek Amer” has 2,300 followers.
Another page, called “Tarek Amer’s fans”, has 636 followers, most of them working in the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), as well as a number of business journalists, especially those interested in the banking sector.
