The Ministry of Interior announced, in an official report on Monday, the annual census of its efforts in countering different crimes.
The report stated that in 2015, 433 cases of rape were detected, as well as 164 cases of abduction, 1,184 cases of attempted murder, and 700 cases of theft. It also announced the disappearance of 151 children.
In crimes related to holding unlicensed weapons, the ministry said it identified 34,013 unlicensed firearms and 11 explosive devices, and arrested 1,387 criminal groups.
As for criminal charges, 67,532 verdicts were issued; 2,333,984 verdicts for fines, and 8,012 on other violations. Up to 3,822,959 arrests were made in 2015, but the ministry did not specify the numbers for different crimes.
Thousands were arrested by October on charges of belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group, according to Daily News Egypt’s aggregation of the ministry’s reports. At least 418 were arrested in October alone.
Deputy Interior Minister Kamal El-Daly said 11,877 were arrested since the beginning of 2015 on charges of belonging to the Brotherhood, with a total of 171 “terrorist cells”, according to an interview with state-run Al-Akhbar newspaper in late October.
