The House of Representatives scheduled a Sunday evening session to discuss the programme presented by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on 27 March.

A special parliamentary committee was assigned to review the cabinet’s programme and issue its recommendations. According to local reports, the committee’s assessment is inclined towards granting confidence to Ismail’s cabinet. MPs will provide their opinions on the report it prepared.

According to the parliament’s announced schedule, MPs are expected to carry out this work over several sessions during the week, at least until Wednesday.

The parliament’s acceptance or rejection of the cabinet’s programme determines the renewal or withdrawal of confidence in the current cabinet, depending on the majority of MPs votes.

Voting will take place individually. MP Tarek Radwan, who spoke to Daily News Egypt shortly before the commencement of the session, said the parliament will begin by submitting the findings of all sub-committees to the one specialised internal committee.

“I believe that until Wednesday we will present the different axes of the cabinet’s programme and listen to MPs comments about them,” Radwan explained.

In conclusion, the parliament is expected to vote, either withdrawing confidence in the cabinet, renewing it, or renewing it conditionally with recommendations. Radwan however highlighted the non-binding nature of recommendations at this point, as the programme must be addressed in its current iteration.
