The average weekly wage for employees in both the public and private sectors (businesses with more than 10 employees) reached EGP 879 in 2015, an increase of 9.1% from EGP 806 in 2014, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
CAPMAS issued its annual bulletin of statistics for employment, wages and working hours in 2015 on Thursday.
The average weekly wage was EGP 1,064 in the public sector in 2015, compared to EGP 1,026 in 2014, a 3.7% increase. In the private sector, the average weekly wage was EGP 594 an increase of 17.4% from EGP 506 in 2014
The average weekly wage for male employees in both sectors was EGP 884, an 8.2% increase from EGP 817 in 2014. Female employees were paid an average weekly salary of EGP 853 compared to EGP 746 in 2014, an increase of 14.3%.
In the public sector, male employees were paid EGP 1,042 per week, a 3.4% increase from 1,008 EGP in 2014. The average weekly wage for female employees was EGP 1,200 in this sector compared to EGP 1,161 in 2014 , an increase of 5.1%.
In the private sector, the average weekly wage for male employees was EGP 615 compared to EGP 529 in 2014, an increase of 16.3%. Female workers received EGP 510 per week, an 21.7% increase from 419 EGP in 2014.
Employees worked an average of 53 hours per week across both sectors, with an average of 51 hours in the public sector and 56 hours in the private sector.
