Minister Industry and Foreign Trade Tarek Qabil held an expanded meeting with officials of the Italian company D’Appolonia, which is responsible for preparing the study and masterplan of Golden Triangle region project in Upper Egypt.
According to press statement issued by the ministry on Thursday, the two parties reviewed the draft of the project’s masterplan in preparation for the issuance of the final masterplan in the not too distant future.
Qabil said that the project includes the development of 9,000 sqkm in Qena goverorate in the area between the Red Sea and the Nile river. The project will serve a large number of low-income residents in Upper Egypt by providing job opportunities for 300,000 people as well as health and education services, as the project will contribute to increasing Egyptian exports to foreign markets and increase direct flows of investment.
The minister pointed out that the project includes number of industrial and mining projects as well as agricultural, touristic and commercial projects.
He added that the government pays great attention to the project as one of the important national projects that will serve the national economy, contribute to increasing the gross national product (GNP), and raising the standards of living in Upper Egypt governorates.
“The idea of establishing an institutional entity to manage the project is being studied,” the minister said. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, D’Appolonia’s officials, and concerned ministers. They reviewed the final masterplan of the project in preparation for its issue and the start of operational steps to be put forward to investors.
