Sayed Atallah, legal adviser to a number of wheat silo owners, said that he intends to submit a memorandum to the General Prosecutor about the announced exaggerated estimates by parliament’s Fact-Finding Committee on the value of the falsely reported supplies, estimated at EGP 7bn.

He pointed out that the reason behind attacking the domestic wheat supply system is to destroy the baking system that has provided about 2m tonnes of wheat for the production of bread.

He said that the wheat supplies were received in accordance with the ministries of supply, agriculture, and finance’s regulations that were implemented years ago, in addition to new regulations by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade during 2016. The new restrictions include blocking the import of wheat, as well as banning the trade of domestic wheat between the governorates. Wheat supplies should be received through inventory lists to prevent fraudulent actions and ensure the actual quantities in the silos.

Magdy Maximus, chairperson of the parliament’s Fact-Finding Committee, said that the wheat inventory processes are increasing the estimates of falsely reported wheat supplies to 45% during this season.
