Lawyer Khaled Ali filed an appeal on Monday against President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and ministers of interior, foreign affairs, and defence demanding the implementation of the court’s verdict that cancelled the maritime demarcation agreement.

Ali filed this counter-appeal after another two appeals were filed. One appeal was made by the Egyptian cabinet, which refused to comment of the verdict saying that it respects the decision of the judiciary, but said that it is not final. The other one was filed by a citizen. This appeal is set to be ruled on 30 August.

Ali said in his appeal that the president and the ministers have no legal or constitutional reason to not implemented the decision, adding that not implementing the verdict will have dangerous implications

The State Council Administrative Court ruled earlier in June to cancel the maritime demarcation agreement that was signed between Al-Sisi and the Saudi Arabian king in April.

The agreement erupted controversy and led to nationwide protests. Furthermore, several activists were arrested in light of the agreement as they rejected it and accused Al-Sisi of selling Egyptian territory.
