Terrorism is a real danger that threatens the future of all nations and citizens, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said in a statement to the Non-Aligned summit being held in Venezuela, which was delivered on his behalf by Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry.
International efforts should be collaborated to combat terrorism, the president said, adding that all the reasons that lead to terrorism should be discussed, particularly the policy of the international community in dealing with regional crises that led to violations against the rights of citizens in these regions.
One of the key reasons, Al-Sisi said, is that terrorist entities and groups have been used to achieve political gains.
Al-Sisi was unable to attend the Non-Aligned summit in Venezuela as he is participating in the United Nations general assembly starting Monday.
In light of the recent economic crisis, the president continued, developing countries have suffered from lack of resources needed to achieve the 2030 sustainable development plan. These countries need a larger share of technology and international trade.
The statement also tackled the Palestinian crisis, stressing that Egypt’s stance is obvious in supporting Palestinians’ rights and refusing the expansion of Israeli settlements.
During the summit, Shoukry met with his Serbian counterpart to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and means to foster ties between them. They further discussed the political turmoil in Syria and Libya, and Egypt’s stances on these issues.
Shoukry also met with his Turkish counterpart, according to a statement from Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zaid. This meeting reflects Turkey’s intention to surpass its currently tense relations with Egypt, Abou Zaid said.
Abou Zaid had previously said that Egypt will not backtrack from its stance on Turkey, unless the latter decides to refrain from intervening in Egypt’s internal affairs and respects the will of the citizens that resulted in the current Egyptian president and government.
