Gaish edge past Al-Ansar in ACL

CAIRO: Al-Gaish got through to the second round of the Arab Champions League (ACL) after beating their Lebanese guests Al-Ansar 2-1 in Cairo on Monday.

Anwar Messaoud opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute but Brazilian Edilson cancelled the lead just seconds before the break.

Ghanaian striker Ernest Papa Arko had the last word as he scored the winner in the 49th minute.

Al-Gaish qualify for the second round on a 3-2 aggregate win as the first-leg ended in a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, Kuwaiti side Al-Arabi reached the second round going past Mouloudia Oran 2-0.

The second Egyptian representative in ACL, Al Masri, faces Talea from Syria on Tuesday. The Port Said-based side lost their first-leg at home 1-0.
