CAIRO: Zamalek have surprisingly pulled the plug on a summer swoop for Cameroonian midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba.
The player s agent revealed earlier on Sunday that his client is on the verge of completing a move to the Egyptian Cup winners.
However, Zamalek opted not to proceed with the deal, fearing that the arrival of Djemba-Djemba could dent their chances of strengthening the left-back position.
Regulations of the Egyptian Football Association allow every club to register three foreigners in its squad for local competitions.
Zamalek already have two foreigners at their disposal: Tunisian defender Wissem El-Abdi and Ghana striker Junior Agogo.
The Cairo giants have offered a trial to an unnamed Brazilian left-back as they look to replace duo Khaled Saad and Tarek Al-Sayed, who have been released last month.
