CAIRO: Emad Meteb s torrid summer continues as News of the World reported that Everton are weighing a £1.8 million bid to sign the Ahly striker, despite his recent loan move to Saudi Arabia s Ittihad Jeddah.

The 25-year-old agreed a season-long loan with Ittihad last week, but his International Transfer License is yet to be sent to the Saudi side.

Everton are looking for someone to replace Andy Johnson and have asked agents if a deal for Meteb could be done late in the window, a source told the News of the World.

Meteb is now considering his options.

Prior to Meteb s talks with Ittihad, English agent Jesse Learoyd-Hill revealed that he is brokering a Premiership move for the Egypt striker.

Learoyd-Hill, who dragged Ibrahim Saied to Goodison Park in 2004, stressed that Meteb was still keen on England.

On the other hand, Everton boss David Moyes said that he could sign “six or seven players before the transfer window closure next week, following a sluggish summer in terms of imports.

I ve never had a more frustrating summer, Moyes said in the wake of his side s 2-1 win over West Brom on Saturday.

This is the first summer where I feel I have not made any progression. I don t need to buy mid-Premier League players; I need to buy top players to challenge the top teams -and that costs big money.

We ve got all these injuries, and I want to sign six or seven players before next week. I m going to try to do something but I can t say for sure that it is going to happen. All you can see is that it is not helping things, through not having brought in new blood.

Moreover, Meteb is unlikely to cause the Toffees red tape problems as he has already acquired a UK work permit when he was poised to join Bristol City in June.
