ENPPI advance to third spot with Gouna win

CAIRO: ENPPI clinched a 2-1 home win over Gouna on Tuesday to leapfrog into third place in the Egyptian Premier League table.

Zeka Goore put the petroleum outfit ahead three minutes from the half-hour mark, and Arafa Al-Sayed equalized on 72 minutes.

An injury-time strike from Vincent Die Foneye gave ENPPI the narrow victory.

The hosts, who were in 11th place before the game, now have six points, one behind joint leaders Petrojet and Ahly.

Coastal side Gouna, who haven t recorded their maiden top-flight victory yet, lie 14th with a couple of points.

Ivorian hitman Zeka Goore broke the deadlock when he rose to nod a precise cross from the left flank into the net.

Gouna exerted extra efforts to restore parity, and Ahmed Omran was about to cancel out ENPPI s slender lead four minutes from the break with a nice header, but it was blocked by Al-Mahdi Soliman.

Al-Sayed brought the score level after capitalizing on a defensive lapse to latch onto a deft through and go one-one-one with Soliman, who couldn t deny his clinical finish.

Referee Medhat Abdel-Aziz sent off Gouna s Hussein Ali 12 minutes from the final whistle for involving in a row, a decision that caused chaos on the field for a while.

Die Foneye headed home one of Ahmed Al-Muhammadi s trademark crosses in the 91st minute.
