Hosni Abd-Rabou scored in his first match with Ahli Dubai after returning from African Cup of Nations duty but could not help his side lose 2-1 to Wehda in the UAE Football League on Wednesday.
The Egyptian midfielder was included in Ahli s starting line-up for the game, 24 hours after returning from Angola where he won the Nations Cup with the Pharaohs for a record-extending seventh time.
The spot-kick specialist needed eight minutes to put Ahli ahead with a trademark penalty.
However, Wehda overturned the deficit with two goals from Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano and his fellow countryman Pinga either side of the interval.
Ahli, who are yet to replicate the form that saw them win the league last season, lie seventh in the table with 14 points from 12 games.
Abd-Rabou was a regular member of an Egyptian side who won an unprecedented third consecutive Nations Cup title.
He converted a penalty in their impressive 4-0 drubbing of Algeria in the semi final.
The 25-year-old will return to Ismaili in the summer when he ends a two-season loan spell at Ahli.
