Prominent Egyptian script writer dies

CAIRO: Abdel Hay Adeeb, a prominent Egyptian scriptwriter whose movies won several awards, has died, Egypt s Middle East News agency reported Sunday. He was 87.

Mena said Adeeb died in Switzerland, where he was being treated for an unspecified illness.

Adeeb wrote more than 200 scripts. His first was made into a 1958 movie, The Iron Gate, directed by renowned director Youssef Chahine.

His last, A Teenager s Diaries, was directed by controversial director Enas Degedi in 2002.

His funeral will be Tuesday, the news agency said. He is survived by three sons.
