CAIRO: Cairo is hosting a workshop organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-Escwa), on “Evaluation and Adaptation of Existing Water Visions and Forecasts for Shared Aquifer Management in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership Region (MEDA) , at the Mena House Oberoi Hotel.

The conference will discuss knowledge transfer and data collection on shared aquifers.

It is the third workshop held within the scope of an inter-regional project implemented by UN-Escwa in collaboration with Unesco (the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) and UN-Desa (the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs).

The project as a whole aims to implement a sustainable and equitable system for managing shared water resources. Better water management will improve quality for the people of the region directly and help to decrease conflicts between countries over shared water resources.

For this meeting, a comprehensive study conducted by UN-Escwa on groundwater resources in the region will be presented and discussed. Participants feedback will be included in the final report.

Representatives of water management institutions in the MEDA in the area and various UN agencies will be at the meeting.
