The General Committee in parliament decided on Sunday to refer member of parliament and the former head of the Human Rights Committee Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat to investigation after a memorandum was submitted against him by Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Waly.

The memo accused Al-Sadat of allegedly leaking to foreign embassies in Egypt a copy of the much anticipated NGOs law that was sent by the prime minister to the parliament for discussion.

Parliamentary sources denied the accusation leveled against the MP to local media, saying that the parliament has not yet received the draft law.

For his part, Al-Sadat issued a statement Sunday that criticised parliament’s performance.

Al-Sadat is known for rejecting certain policies in the state, and has been embroiled in several disputes with parliamentary speaker Ali Abdul Aal regarding controversial issues.
