Second conference within month that PM fails to attend

Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif failed to attend an investment conference Friday at which he was due to give a keynote address as part of the delegation receiving Singapore President Sellapan Ramanathan on his visit to Egypt.

This time it was the Second World Association for Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) Regional Investment conference in Sharm El-Sheikh hosted jointly by the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) and the WAIPA.

In his place, Minister of Tourism Zuheir Garana attended the conference. Minister of Investment Mahmoud Mohieddin read verbatim the speech Nazif was due to give at the opening session for the conference.

Also in attendance at the conference was head of WAIPA Kai Hammerich, head of GAFI Ziad Bahaa El-Din, Governor of South Sinia Mohammed Metwaly and former Trade Minister Ahmed Gewaily.

WAIPA is an organization that works to bring worldwide investment promotion agencies (IPAs, organizations that attempt to encourage investment in a particular region) together to help increase the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI). This was the first such conference to be held in Egypt.

This is the second time within the past month that Nazif was due to attend an investment conference and failed to do so, also missing the opening of the Egypt Invest conference on Nov.1.
