CAIRO: An Egyptian sailor who was injured during a rocket attack on his boat off the Lebanese coast died in a Syrian hospital, Egyptian security sources told AFP Thursday. Ahmed Yussef Awad suffered injuries to his neck caused by missile fragments and died Wednesday at a hospital in Syria. He had been taken with 11 other crew members. Their boat Moonlight, which had been carrying cement, was hit by a Hezbollah missile on Friday as it was sailing in the Mediterranean close to Israeli navy vessels, the Israeli army said. Four Israeli sailors were also killed when their warship, which was patrolling Lebanese waters as part of a massive air and sea blockade, was hit in the attack. The Syrian news agency had said that the Egyptian boat had been hit by shots fired from an Israeli ship off the coast of Beirut. Egyptian security sources say the origins of the shots are unknown, and those survivors witness accounts only report an explosion which caused a fire on board the ship. AFP
