Army truck collision in Egypt kills 1 soldier

CAIRO: An Egyptian security official says a road accident near the border with Israel has killed one Egyptian soldier and left 21 others seriously injured.

The official says a truck carrying soldiers driving back to base after their night shifts collided head-on with a merchant truck. The accident took place on Tuesday morning in Egypt s Sinai Peninsula, about 30 kilometers from the Israeli border.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn t authorized to speak to the media.

He says some of the soldiers had serious head injuries and were receiving medical attention at the hospital in nearby city of El-Arish.

About 6,000 people die every year in road accidents in Egypt because of bad roads and poor traffic laws enforcement.
