President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s electoral campaign announced Wednesday submitting his candidacy file for the upcoming presidential elections. The papers were filed by Mohamed Bahaa Abu Shouka, the campaign official representative, according to state run-media.
Meanwhile, Al-Sisi appointed Mahmoud Karem as a general coordinator for his campaign, while Abu Shouka will be the campaign spokesperson.
On Tuesday, Sisi underwent a medical examination in preparations for officially submitting his papers to the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
Early in January, NEC announced that 2018 presidential election would begin abroad on 16 March, 26 March for Egypt. Elections inside the country will take place along three days, starting from 16 to 18 March, and will continue inside Egypt on 26 to 28, while the result will be announced on 2 April.
In case of a rerun, elections would take place outside Egypt on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 19, 20, and 21 April, while 24, 25, 26 April 2018 would see elections inside Egypt.
Runoff could take place if no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote.
The commission will receive applications between 20 and 29 January and the final list of candidates will appear in state-run newspapers Al-Ahram and Al-Akhbar by the end of January.
