The Ghibli Raceway for karting in Sharm El-Sheikh witnessed, several days ago, the second round of the local qualifiers for the 19th Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals for kart racing in Brazil, scheduled for November 2018. The third and fourth rounds are set for mid-April.

The race was organised under the supervision of the Automobile and Touring Club—official representative of Egypt at the International Federation of Motorsports (FIA) and the International Commission of Karting (CIK).

In the Junior category for “beginners”, Ismail Ahmed won first place, followed by Islam Ahmed and Ahmed Walid.

In DD2 category, the highest category in terms of the karts’ speed, estimated at 265 km/h and engines of 34 hp, Ahmed Natalie won first place, followed by Ibrahim Al-Shennawi and Bassam Ammar.

In the Max category for professional drivers aged over 16 years old, Hussein Salman won first place, followed by Farouk Gad and Islam Ahmed.

At the end of the tour, Taha Mousa, director of development at Yaqeen Group for sports and entertainment, announced that the company will sponsor the qualifying Egyptian drivers for the next world competition.

“Our sponsorship of this event, and other champions in different sports, does not aim to benefit from advertising, but it is a message that everyone can benefit and interact with society,” Moussa said.

He added that there are many athletes who need administrative and moral support, not only financial, stressing that the main goal of such competitions is to represent Egypt honourably at international events.

Amr Yousri, executive director of Ghibli Raceway, said that Egypt will be represented by two drivers at the 19th Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals for kart racing in Brazil.

In addition, the winner of the Sodi competition will qualify for the Sodi World Series (SWS), set to launch in France by June 2019. Meanwhile, Italy will host the finals of the 2018 SWS tournament in June 2018, where Egypt will be represented by young driver Ahmed Mohamed.
